I know some of the hardcore Newsboys fans may disagree with me, but Restart is the best Newsboys album since Take Me To Your Leader. I believe Restart will be the album we see Newsboys grow once again as we did with Take Me To Your Leader and Adoration. I can remember when I first heard Furler was taking over vocals after John James departure I did not know what to expect. After John’s departure we saw Peter sing some of the best songs the Newsboys have ever produced like Breakfast and Take Me To Your Leader and he did a great job of being the frontman. Then they follow it up with the spinning drum set Step Up To The Microphone tour. Restart I believe is Michael, Jody, Jeff and Duncan’s Take Me To Your Leader album. This will be a stand out album.
Once you get past the fact Michael Tait is the new front man and a new era in the Newsboys legacy, you will see this is one of the most solid albums this band has ever released. It is filled with hope, love and encouragement set to music that moves you. This band has come a long away from Love, Liberty, and Disco. They still have music that moves you but it is not as much about Captain Crunch but more about Jesus. This is a much more mature and in my opinion more talented and united Newsboys. Restart is filled with how great our God and many other aspects of our Father.
The style of the album is right there with today’s secular artist. I cannot tell which song will be the next hit because there are so many potential hits. The album has everything from rocking beats to ballads that bring a tear to your eye. Everyone gets an awesome role in this album. Duncan has some great beats to keep the boys in time. Jody and Jeff contribute vocals and music. Michael’s voice has never sounded better. This album reminds me just how good Tait was in Jesus Freak and Supernatural. If you think this is just another Newsboys album, think again. This is one of the best in the Newsboys legacy if not the best. I strongly recommend buying this album. I very rarely do this, but since I see this album changing the direction of the Newsboys and adding a different and much needed dynamic to Contemporary Christian music, I give Restart a 5/5!
