Anthony Evans may not yet be a household name, but in my book he should be.  Even though his father is world re-known preacher Dr. Tony Evans of Dallas’ Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, through the seven albums he’s released, I think he has managed to create his own persona and also be acclaimed as one of the most gifted and talented voices in all of Christian music.  His new record Real Life/Real Worship proves just that.  But if you ask Evans, he’s not interested in being the best of the best, he just wants to use the gift that God gave him and make music that will uplift and encourage the masses.

Real Life/Real Worship starts out with the poppy dance-ready radio single “Never Fail”, which pretty much sums up what the record is all about.  The message here that God’s love never fails is loud and clear.  “The Lord is with us/ The Lord is with us/Our God is for us/He will never fail”.  There are many tracks on this album that could easily become radio singles, but more importantly, songs that go a long way in being something that could highly encourage you in your real life worship to the Creator.  “I Found You” speaks of hope, love and strength found only through Christ.  Another great number that I could hear on a Christian dance remix album.

My favorite track on the album would have to be “Mercy Tree”.  I have been writing reviews and interviewing artists for a decade now and I have never heard of the Cross referred to as a ‘mercy tree’.  The song was written by Krissy Nordhoff, and during an interview recently with Evans, he pointed out how poetic it sounded having the cross compared in such a contrast as a mercy tree.  Such an amazing and a beautidul song.  It was even covered by Lacey Sturm (formerly of Flyleaf) and featured on the Billy Graham: My Hope DVD.

In closing, I believe Real Life/Real Worship will be an album that fans of all Christian music genres can embrace and find common ground with.  It’s entertaining to listen to, has great towering vocals and most importantly – a message that people need to hear.  God is here and has invited us to follow Him and we just heed to the call.  Excellent album, definitely one of the top releases so far in 2014.  Pick your copy up now and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about.  Great album! 4.5/5
